Violets, or Viola odorata, contain a chemical constituent called ionone, which act to temporarily blocks your sense of smell. This effect has been well-documented by poets and scientists, alike, and give the flower a sort of reputation of aloofness. This concept of a plant "stealing" from the senses was the inspiration behind the song Violet Note.
